Last semester, SUNY Broome Clinical Laboratory Technologies graduate and Health for Haiti team member, Phoebe Macaulay, lost her battle with brain cancer at the young age of 26. At the time of her passing, Phoebe was continuing her studies at SUNY Upstate Medical University (link to Phoebe’s obituary). If you were lucky enough to have the opportunity to know Phoebe, there is no doubt that you will remember her amazing spirit, generous heart, and kind smile.
As part of the 2017 Health for Haiti class, Phoebe impacted nearly every project we worked on. Phoebe volunteered tirelessly to serve in various roles on the ground in Haiti and, later, spent many hours producing and preparing educational materials from home. As the president of the CLT Club, Phoebe made substantial contributions to one of our must popular and successful lessons ever, the microscopy lesson. As a result of her efforts, Phoebe’s impact on science education in rural Haiti continued for years after she participated in the class.

To honor this amazing young woman, the SUNY Broome Clinical Technology Laboratories Department has set up a scholarship in Phoebe’s name. The SUNY Broome Foundation Office shared the following link for those who might want to make a donation to the scholarship fund that was created to honor Phoebe’s memory:
